"out of the box" se puede traducir como "fuera de lo común", o "innovador".
Pero "work out of the box" es algo que "está listo para usar" o más
vulgarmente "funciona de una", o "funciona al toque" :P No sé que tan
aceptadas están estas últimas expresiones en los paises
hispanohablantes.

Se podría decir que "no funcionan inmediatamente en hardware carente
de libertad."

"Meanwhile" = "mientras tanto" (no sólo "mientras").
