scanner support in linux-libre

Hello.

I'm using Linux-libre 2.6.28 under Debian Lenny and I am not able to use my
scanner. I thought it was some sane bug and I made an online search. In one of
the results I found a mention to the linux file scanner.c, so I searched the
linux-libre source for it and it wasn't there. This made me reboot and choose
a Debian stock kernel at boot time. Doing this, I was able to use my scanner.

I don't have a full Linux tree available to me at the moment, so I ask if the
scanner.c file is really non-free/dictatorware or is the removal of the file a
bug.
