instituting a state for self-determination seems like a reasonable idea indeed. IMHO it's making it a racist and non-laic state that it becomes trouble, whether or not these features arise in response to others' racism or religious intolerance. I often wonder what it would be like to live in a planet-wide democratic, republican, laic federation respectful of human rights. would that make us better or worse off than the current coflict-prone arrangement of diverse national states? could we hope for improvements out of a unified structure of power, or would we be better off with fiercer competition between national states, wherein citizens could freely choose their national affiliations? which one could bring us more freedom and stability, and less violence?
