From lxoliva at fsfla.org Sat Apr 22 21:18:44 2017 From: lxoliva at fsfla.org (Alexandre Oliva) Date: Sat, 22 Apr 2017 18:18:44 -0300 Subject: GNU Linux-libre 4.11-rc7-gnu Message-ID: Over the past couple of weeks, I updated the deblobbing scripts for the 4.11 series. The result is now available in https://www.fsfla.org/svn/fsfla/software/linux-libre/scripts/ and in the 4.11-rc7-gnu release candidate I published for testing earlier today. I realize that, if 4.11 final comes out tomorrow, as it very well might, there won't be much time for reporting deblobbing problems in rc7, but if you find any, please let me know. The problems we have with AMD and Radeon GPUs are caused by hardware that requires blobs to be loaded by drivers, and drivers that refuse to run if they can't find the blobs. Even if the BIOS loaded Free but otherwise equivalent code to the video cards, the drivers would still refuse to initialize in the very same way. -- Alexandre Oliva, freedom fighter http://FSFLA.org/~lxoliva/ You must be the change you wish to see in the world. -- Gandhi Be Free! -- http://FSFLA.org/ FSF Latin America board member Free Software Evangelist|Red Hat Brasil GNU Toolchain Engineer
